Dorothy Stewart Award

Following the passing of our dear quilting friend Dorothy Stewart in July 2005 Dorothy’s small group The Free Motion Quilters came up with the idea to create a quilting award in her name. Dorothy’s husband Walt was very touched and delighted by this idea and generously funded the award by donating $500. What a wonderful way to honor the memory of a wonderful quilter and friend. To be eligible for the award the person must have been a member of the EPQG for at least one year. Nominations will come from the membership through a nomination form published in the newsletter.  This form will also be available at guild meetings. The nomination committee will be taking the nominations of guild members for the award. The information received by them will be kept in strict confidence. Qualifications for the award are:

  • Thinks outside the box
  • Challenges herself to do new and innovative projects
  • Uses various quilting techniques and executes them well
  • Willing to share ideas with other quilters
  • Represents EPQG and quilting well in the community by participating in projects like raffles donation quilts and special events.

The winner will be honored at the June guild meeting. There will also be a monetary gift of $50.00. In addition there will be an award document suitable for framing and a copy of the CD of Dorothy’s guild presentation. A write up will be sent to the local newspapers. The winner may also be featured in the next month’s EPQG newsletter with possibly an interview and some of the comments from their peers which motivated the committee to choose them for the award.
